Nuclear SMS

Following a growing world demand for energy, the nuclear industry is preparing itself to support this increase need. It is doing so at a quick pace.

Keeping this in mind coupled with a strong desire to avoid mistakes from the past, nuclear operators and world organizations such as the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) recognize the need for a mechanism to support and encourage a strong safety culture and enhanced safety work practices.

SMS achieves these objectives and as such it seems to be the next step forward for this industry.

ISR was founded by two nuclear industry professionals with a combined 50+ years of experience in safety (nuclear or otherwise). The ISR SMS team has worked with regulatory authorities and nuclear licensees in Canada and internationally. Our experience includes:

• Assisted in the improvement of safety and emergency response services at two nuclear power stations in Canada.
• Assessed the safety culture and developed a Nuclear and Ionizing Radiation Safety Management System for the Canadian military nuclear regulator.
• Assessed nuclear safety culture and accident and incident response processes for industry and government.
• Developed an SMS for all activities related to the procurement, use and disposal of radioactive materials.
• Developed a Directive for the management of safety for activities related to nuclear materials performed by the research and development branch of the Canadian military.
