Mr. Lafrenière has a Mechanical Engineering BASc from the University of Ottawa and a Degree in Executive Development Program from Schulich School of Business. He was a General Manager of Facilities and Nuclear Operations at AECL in Chalk River as well as a dedicated Isotope Facilities Operator for 8 years. Mr. Lafrenière brought to improve the Operations and Safety performance of the new DIF facilities and radically transformed the culture to a performance driven business culture compatible with AECL's emerging commercial business model.

Mr. Lafrenière was a Technical Manager for Hydro Québec Gentilly 2 NPP (1991-1997). He succeeded in improving the station's capacity factor to above 80% lifetime while reorganizing Gentilly 2 for sustained performance improvement. He was responsible for all the technical support, engineering and projects including a 400MWe Gas Turbine plant allied with the NPP.
